*The Pearl is station five, and acts as a monitoring station. It is the question mark on the Blast Door map. The station is one large, octagonal room, in which nine television sets are fed live surveillance pictures of the other hatches (though the only picture that could be picked up as of "?" was from one of the hidden cameras in The Swan.) A camera was also notably visible inside the Pearl.
Logo Change
  +
*According to The Pearl's Orientation video, the staff of The Pearl live there for three weeks, and monitor the occupants of the other stations in eight hour shifts. Whenever a observation notebook is filled, they are placed in a pneumatic tube and sent off to what is only described as 'us'.
Without any disrespect for Darth Annaud, I think it's about time to change our current logo for one without copyrighted material. I propose a contest. We are undergoing a makeover and a new logo would come in handy. --GodEmperorOfHell 18:31, 29 January 2006 (PST)

  +
*The video is hosted by a man who introduces himself as Dr. Mark Wickman, however, he looks identical to Dr. Marvin Candle from the The Swan's Orientation film with the notable difference that he has the full use of his left arm and different attire.
Yeah, its a really nice logo, but branching to something uniquely "our" own might be a better choice. Personally, I think we should have 4 logos available, one for the top left wiki-logo. One for the front page main intro, a banner add (just-in-case we want it for something), and a linkable for people to place at their own websites. I will also add that I am no artist. I did however take the two old logo contest pages put them into a Contests category. --Circeus 21:45, 29 January 2006 (PST)

  +
*There is a computer identical to the one inside The Swan. However, it displays "Print Log? Y/N". Upon giving the command, the computer prints a repeating series of numeric codes, interspersed by the word "accepted", as "41602064:41 accepted 41602086:29 accepted" etc. The numbers appear to increase.
We need admin to come in on this one, as he is the only one who can affect logo changes as far as i understand. We do need to try and branch out on our own visually, Lostpedia looks like Wikipedia by far too much. I like the brightness of the site, But as it stands we are visually no different from Wikipedia.... Is anyone handy with Wiki templates too? --Plkrtn 07:20, 31 January 2006 (PST)

Theories
What about using that world symbol, but replace the letters by The Numbers? And maybe change some of the coloring towards jungle-ish green shades, maybe with ocean-blue in the lower screen part. I would not use too much real photos/graphics as I usually prefer rather simple interfaces (lower loading time and less confusing for the eye when reading). --aurora glacialis 06:29, 6 March 2006 (PST)

  +
* The Pearl's Orientation video says that the purpose of the video is to study the occupants of the other stations, and says that these occupants think that the work they are doing is extremely important. Perhaps the pushing of the button in the hatch is just as Jack said - nothing but an experiment to see if somebody would do it?
Sounds good... except for the colours, unless they're reeeeeally desaturated. ;) Using colour graphics that don't fit the default Wiki Monobook theme/skin is probably a bad idea, B&W is the Wiki way to go! :) Maybe add a skin/theme with more losty colours, but as far as the graphics go, I'd keep them as 'bland' as they are. --skks 14:34, 7 March 2006 (PST)

  +
* Also, the orientation video never makes it perfectly clear where the completed notebooks go once they enter the suction tube. Perhaps The Pearl is just an experiment to see if people would fill notebooks, just like The Swan and The Button are implied to be?

  +
* The numbers appear to increase, suggesting that they could be time stamps. If they represent minutes and seconds, it works out to about 79 years; if they represent hours and minutes, it works out to 4745 years.
Yeah - they should be really desaturated and light if they should be there at all. I just added this proposal because someone said that the page is too much like Wikipedia... I uploaded a logo proposal (see image to the right) let me know what you think (and if this topic is at all valid anymoe. )--aurora glacialis 14:47, 7 March 2006 (PST)

  +
* The numbers displayed on the log printout could possibly be the numbers being entered and confirmation of the button being pushed in The Swan.

  +
* The numbers are not hex coding, as that would be the digits 0-9 plus the letters A-F (and sometimes explicitly denoted with a leading "0x").
That's still got copyrighted material of which removal was the main idea (atleast above) on the whole logo change concept. Beyond that, I'd cut the text from it's background and make it blend in a bit more, right now it feels a bit too separate. Maybe blend it on the globe as a hue-filter. --skks 01:14, 8 March 2006 (PST)

  +
* The numbers shown on the printout are always an eight-digit value starting with 416020nn, followed by a colon and two more digits. The "nn" values seem to gradually increase (and presumably were smaller earlier in the log), while the digits after the colon always seem to be "41", "05", "17" or "29".

  +
* The video footage will reveal Michael shooting Libby and Ana-Lucia.
Ok - One could of course rewrite "LOST" - or leave it out altogether since there is also the word "LostpediA" that should be unter the logo. Too much stuff on that globe would be confusing - tried that, but it don't look good. Is that globe symbol copyrighted? if so, the whole idea of that logo is of course busted. One coule rearrange the characters unter the globe to look more like "standing around", would that help?

  +
* The log may also reveal the discussion between Michael and "Walt".

  +
* The log may also reveal if "Henry Gale" was lying to Locke about not pressing the button during the Lockdown_Incident.
AFAIK all Wiki images (the globe for one) are Copyleft and all LOST images (like the people standing around) are Copyrighted. From the current version of the logo, I'd move The Numbers & Execute puzzle pieces a bit more apart, so the logo wouldn't be so 'heavy' on the center and maybe have the LostpediA text under the globe and blended into the background (so maybe extend the bg a bit). I could have a go at the logo myself at some point, but I don't have the necessary tools installed just yet. --skks 09:02, 8 March 2006 (PST)

  +
* This may be where the message from "Walt" was sent from.

  +
** If this is indeed the case, then it may confirm the existance of hidden passages interconnecting the Hatches, as the only visible entrance to The Pearl was uncovered by Eko and Locke.
Trademark violation
  +
** Then again, the others could have brought Walt in the same way Locke and Eko went in, and just closed the door & moved the plane back over it when they left.

About the current logo
Can't we just ask Wikimedia permission to use the current logo then? It's interesting to note that Wikimedia - which is a proponent of free flow of information etc - is giving us more heat about copyright infringement than ABC, Bad Robot Productions and Touchstone Television! --Jambalaya 14:06, 28 March 2006 (PST)

:You could try, but the Wikimedia logo is meant for Wikimedia projects. Angela 05:59, 30 March 2006 (PST)

I guess the problem is in modifying their logo, we can probably use the orginal logo as it's probably distributed with mediawiki. Modifying it causes the problem. Yeah, I agree that it's slightly ironic that wikimedia is doing most of the whining. Bad day at the office perhaps. --skks 02:08, 29 March 2006 (PST)

:No, the unmodified logo is a trademark of Wikimedia and is not distributed with MediaWiki. Protecting our trademarks is "whining" but is legally essential to ensure we maintain those marks. Angela 05:59, 30 March 2006 (PST)

:I don't believe Wikimedia are doing anything against this site. We shouldn't use their logo for our wiki as our wiki is not part of Wikimedia. Further more, we have talked about this issue for a while, and its only fair that the company that provide this fantastic free software to build our Wiki on, protect their Wiki's image while we promote our own. They have been far from heavy handed.

ABC love us. They think the rabid fanbase is brilliant, I would be disapointed if we couldn't use screenshots and things on our site. Its part of who the fan base is.

::Hello Angela, I just noticed this area of the talk page. I will review our current logo and consider replacing it. We certainly do not want to infringe on any of Wikimedia's rights. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. --Admin 09:39, 5 April 2006 (PDT)

I totally understand what you're saying and why you're saying it, I meant no disrespect with "whining". In any case, I'm not in the position to change any of the main logos as I don't have access to the actual server or the image in question. If the logo isn't changing in what you consider as due time, you could have a better chance in contacting the people that can do anything about it in a more straight-up fashion. --skks 04:29, 4 April 2006 (PDT)

Yes, only Admin can change the Logo. I made a proposal above, still have the PSD files here, if there is interest in it (or something like it) --aurora glacialis 10:30, 5 April 2006 (PDT)

SEASON 3 THEORIES & PREDICTIONS
So now we're up to episode 17 of season 2, I think we're ready to start theorising where the show is going to the next season and beyond, based on what we so far know to be fact. Does this merit a new category? Morrison April 1 06

Okay then I'll start us off, I predict that the following 'may' happen

* They will unearth a mass grave.

* The island will freeze over.

* The island will be submersed by the ocean.

* Another plane is likely to crash, if not a boat or other vessel.

* We will discover that Locke knew about the island before he got there.

* Maybe the survivors will start to communicate and then they can pool the details or their odd experiences and attempt to make some sense of things.

* That the others are not part of the Dharma team, and are themselves stranded.

* That the middle of the island, middle of the stations, the big question mark, relates to the location of a huge brain, A.I. or alien.

* We will discover that two of the main characters are in fact siblings.

* The first resurrection of someone previously dead (debunked by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse - Official Lost Podcast)

* One of the main characters will join the Others (i) approached to (ii) forced to (iii) someone will actively seek to join them, probably Locke

* Our Survivors will themsleves become the others as the task of taking over is landed on them, ready for the next wave of "visitors" to the island.

*We will discover that the "survivors" actually all voluntarily signed up to be on the island and to benefit from the services of the hanso foundation.

Adding a couple of my own - MisterHighway 4/7/06

* Find the grave of Magnus Hanso

* Henry Gale becomes a turncoat

* Danielle with be reunited with her daughter, Alex

*At the end of season two we will see a hatch in the ocean that the cable leads out to from the jungle, over the beach and through the ocean to the hatch, with people looking out onto the island. Suspence for Season 3.new lost 2 day halla--Mr eko 19:04, 10 May 2006 (PDT)

Individual Flashbacks
Given that the nature of each flashback seems to determine the actions/mood of the respective characters, should we be theorising as to how the individual tales will ultimately end, as this should hopefully give us a clearer understanding of just what's going on. Furthermore should we take the flashbacks as fact? Are they all true? Morrison

I would say that yes, the flashbacks are true but told from the perspective of the individual. Example: In Exodus we get a flashback of Jack and Ana Lucia at the bar from (I believe) Jack's perspective. If we had one from Ana's view it might be a subtly or even seriously different scene.--Tricksterson 07:48, 1 April 2006 (PST)

"Other" Fuselage Survivors
We should have a category to account for the others on the beach, we know of Jack and co, but who are these other faces we see mingling around? Could we compile a bunch of stills to account for each? Morrison

Island Infrastructure
Electrical Power

There has been several instances of AC Current used on the island. Both the Swan and the Medical Station have operational power complete with flourescent lighting and electical outlets. The Arrow Station either had limited power or the room was lit with DC batteries locally within the shelter. Rousseau had electrical power and overhead lights in her hidden location. It appears that she had tapped into the island's power grid.

The power being generated appears to be from a central source as multiple locations are on the island's power grid. In order to generate massive amounts of electrical power to multiple locations a large power source and power distribution system is required. This power source appears to either be 'self-sustaining' such as a geothermal powerplant or is controlled by the 'others'. RobEby 20:47, 5 April 2006 (PDT)

*Perhaps her original bunker was set in the remains of the aborted 7th station? That was a pretty big hole she was in. -Piscez

Well, Sayid mentioned geothermal as the source. Does anyone know what he used as the basis for this? Also the cable coming from the sea hints at the possibility of tidal power being used.--Tricksterson 12:28, 4 April 2006 (PDT)

Computing and Network Communications

The Swan Station contains the Apple computer as well as a network connection as someone communicated to Michael by sending messages to it. That means that 2 or more computers are on the "DharmaNet". RobEby 20:46, 5 April 2006 (PDT)

:Or Walt communicated with his psychic powers. We can assume that there's atleast two computers networked, we don't know that. We can also assume walt used his crazy mind powers to communicate directly to the Computer Michael was using, we don't know that either. Jumping to conclusions doesn't really work that well with this show. It's a theory unless we know about it. We could also talk about this on the appropriate article instead of the main page, would be easier for keeping things clean. --skks 03:31, 4 April 2006 (PDT)

Not mutually exclusive. They are currently working on mind/computer interfaces. Perhaps Walt is linked, either electronically or telepathically with a computer somewhere else on the island.--Tricksterson 12:30, 4 April 2006 (PDT)

Exactly why I said <b>'assume'</B>, we don't know any of this as a fact. --skks 11:58, 5 April 2006 (PDT)

Yeah, I thought about that but as per usual, couldn't think of a good article name as 'Lost and found' already exists. :) --skks 23:42, 5 April 2006 (PDT)

No Walt did not have MSN or Y! Messenger. Probably an old chat program made for interop between the stations. Also, my bet is that the big ? station is either a power station with a big unknown source of power drain from the heart of the island -- like a shinra operation in final fantasy VII --- or a geothermal generator (just to be mundane). Or the big headquarters where the others reside. Remember that Michael went towards the ? station and not back to the Arrow station. --ditikos 23:17, 5 April 2006 (GMT+2)

what is the name of Europe's new currency and etc. Why torture him...

Ana Lucia could have done the same thing.Ana lucias dead

Any comments?

:...but who's to say The Others don't have access to the Internet. - 20:57, 5 April 2006 (PDT)

The United Kingdom doesn't have a president.

Yes, trick questions it seems. UK is a constitutional monarchy and there is no currency that's valid in all of Europe. --skks 08:09, 8 April 2006 (PDT)

Gale is a foil for plot development - and character development in the case of Sayid and Anna-Lucia - an opportunity for them to play good cop-bad cop and also to bring out elements of everyone's past who comes in contact with him. In this sense, he can be seen as a distracting element possibly deliberately placed among the survivors by the Others. It wouldn't be any good for Sayid's character to softball Gale when Sayid is supposed to have been an Iraqi interrogator - it also provides an opportunity to contrast Anna-Lucia's self-perception as a badass with the reality that Sayid is much harder core than she is, and she is forced into the role of conciliator (stopping Sayid from shooting Gale). So asking trick questions wouldn't move the plot along as well. --acheron 06:52, 12 April 2006 (PDT)

About 'shot in the dark' theories
Should we start to apply some kind of editorial policy regarding theories? Lately there's been a trend of adding just about anything as a theory without very little grounds for it. Everytime there's a new face in a flashback - he's the leader of the others, or if there's a new bearded face in a flashback - he's mr. friendly, or a 'dharma recruiter' etc. Sure, if you do 100 theories like that, one of them might be correct but are you really theorizing or just guessing? IMO a theory should have some kind of a basis to it, something that makes it plausible, not just possible. Maybe we just need to add a 'Wild guess' section to the articles. --skks 05:59, 16 April 2006 (PDT)

Spoilers (specifically ep flashbacks)
I agree the whole site is technically a spoiler, but am I the only person who thinks that having the upcoming episode flashback subjects at the top (in the grey box) of the page of episodes for the season a bit too much of a spoiler? I live in the USA, and I guess I feel like Lostpedia is more of a resource about what's happened than a spoiler site (except for speculative purposes.) It's hard to avoid seeing this information when it's on so many pages. Episode titles is one thing I guess, but to me, having the flashback subject next to future episode titles is a bit much, and I understand it's not a spoiler per se, but I'd rather not know this information; plus technically, until the episode actually airs, it could be wrong/slightly incorrect information (I know, it's a stretch). Maybe I'm being too sensitive, and I don't mind having that information somewhere, but it's hard to avoid.

(Also, when did this page become a show discussion page? Is there a site discussion page? (I'm assuming this is it.) Some of the station/Dharma/theory stuff on this page probably shouldn't be here, unless I'm wrong about the nature of this discussion page.)

:If it is a complete sentence, it should have a period. A complete sentence contains a subject and verb. Sentence fragments should not have punctuation at the end.

UK Season 2 Premiere
We have had many adverts on TV regarding the imminent start of Season 2 in the UK. As already confirmed, the start date is Tuesday May 2nd at 10pm. An advert today, April 26th, has mentioned that the premiere will be a double bill i.e. the first two episodes of the new series. Can't wait!

: just to clarify that, 2x01 is on channel 4 at 10pm, and 2x02 is on E4 at 11pm. --kaini 15:23, 26 April 2006 (PDT)

: I checked the Channel 4 website TV listings & and i was correct about a double bill on channel 4, the details are:

-10pm to 11pm: Man of Science, Man of Faith

-11pm to 12pm: Adrift

Episodes 2x01 and 2x02 are on Channel 4 (terrestrial TV)

-11.55pm to 12.55am: Orientation

Episode 2x03 is shown on E4 (Freeview or Sky TV).

Therefore on premiere night, three new episodes of Season 2 can be seen in the UK.--deep 11:04, 27 April 2006 (PDT)

:: my bad :) three episodes... talk about a lostfest! --kaini 11:19, 27 April 2006 (PDT)

The adverts in the UK are quite funny! The announcers are 'pretending' to sound desperate, like most UK Lost fans, in wanting to know what happens in Season 2. I am eager to watch season 2 but i know most of the spoilers already, as i have been listening to LostCasts since last year!--deep 11:38, 27 April 2006 (PDT)

:: yeah, but i wish they'd stop showing them (the ads) what seems like every three seconds :D --kaini 12:07, 27 April 2006 (PDT)

:: Have just heard that there's also going to be a mysterious 'advert' during the first set of ad breaks of both the Channel 4 episodes and the E4 show tonight, with a phone number at the end to get more info. If you call the number you find out about some parallel Lost world and you can unlock a whole load of secrets by solving clues and puzzles... Sounds intriguing.

Saw the same TV trailer in the cinema over the weekend---it's everywhere!--deep 07:46, 2 May 2006 (PDT)

::For any UK Lost fans who are interested, the phone number (0800 666640) shown on the 'Hanso Foundation' advert in the ad break was real and when you ring it, a recorded voice says you should visit the Hanso Foundation website for more info.--deep 17:06, 2 May 2006 (PDT).

::::In addition to yesterdays post---i phoned again to hear what the message said today---2 options are given: 1) general info 2) talk to alvar hanso. A recorded message of AH in german is played and then his voicemail starts, but is intercut with a woman shouting/asking where he has gone/disappeared. The voicemail cuts out and returns you to the original recorded voice. All v. interesting!--deep 04:54, 3 May 2006 (PDT)

Like the geek that I am (with spare time on my hands), I phoned the UK line and 'accessed' the voicemail of Thomas Mittelwerk, who spoke about the Widmore Corporation. In my quest to find new clues, I've googled only to find forum posts. Has anybody else had much joy from the 0800 66 66 40 number?

Spoilers revisited
The main page Spoiler box says Lostpedia is updated based upon US airings. I would think that means that spoilers for upcoming episodes aren't allowed. I understand the need for spoilers to be posted and discussed but I don't think they should be included in the article until the episode airs. Should a topic for spoilers be created and all unaired spoiler moved into it? I'm enjoying this website a lot, I'd hate to have to stay away for fear of accidentally reading something I wish I hadn't. --Elvis 09:21, 5 May 2006 (PDT)

:I agree. I was enjoying reading and updating this site, but I don't want to see spoilers, and now that they are mixed in with the established facts without warnings, I guess I'm going to have to avoid this site for awhile. --Uth 09:30, 5 May 2006 (PDT)

:Couldn't agree more. The main thing I have pointed out before is the flashback characters for the upcoming episodes in the Season 2 boxes at the top of every episode page for Season 2...they have the flashback character listed for the season finale which is 3 weeks away. Who's attention to we get to get this changed?

::Check out Desmond's page. Its FULL of spoilers for the finale with absolutely no warning. MAJOR, MAJOR spoilers regarding another character! Christ, this needs to be fixed.-Piscez

:I'm for an absolutly no spoilers policy in any article that is not flagged in a spoiler section. I think that even the flashback subject should be moved into a seperate section as well even though that doesn't bother me in particular. BastionKane

::I think that might be impossible. For example, any description of Desmond would be a spoiler, depending on where someone is in the series. I propose marking spoilers for any occurance that has not yet happened as of the latest airing of the latest episode. That would be the United State airing, wouldn't it? I would go through and do this myself if I wasn't afraid of seeing spoilers. :-) YouPunchIBite 11:59, 5 May 2006 (PDT)

:::Well thats what the main page says- this site goes by US airings. I didn't expect to read huge spoilers while perusing Desmond's page. Any facts about future episodes or facts that will be divulged in future episodes NEED to be labeled as such, and sectioned off. I can't look at this site much until the finale ends, I don't want any more spoilers. -Piscez

IMO, critical spoilers like these should be added to the article that deals with the current season (like Season 2) Personally, I place all the spoilers for unaired episodes on this page. --Jambalaya 15:19, 7 May 2006 (PDT)

Mission Impossible 3/Australian Spoilers
On the Australian version of Lost "Relevations" JJ Abrams revealed 3 secrets ONLY to Australian Viewers.

These Included:

----

1. Saying that the monster would be seen in the next episode. (This is the part where Eko stares down the Monster)

----

2. Hurly is not the only one who was in a mental hospital. (This pertains to Libby)

----

3. There is a reference to Lost in Mission Impossible 3.

The reference to Mission Impossible 3 is that at the end of the credits in the "Special Thank's" Section. The last line reads,

"THE HANSO FOUNDATION"

Supporting Characters
Shouldn't Gary Troup be added to the list of Supporting Characters on the Main Page, especially when a receptionist like Irene gets a mention? Seems a bit daft not to, especially considering Bad Twin and the links there... --Radharc 12:52, 6 May 2006 (PDT)

Orientation Film should be changed to station swan orientation film and the pearl orientation video should be added.

Revision as of 13:28, 11 May 2006

Station Five: The Pearl

Station5Pearl logo

The Pearl

  • The Pearl is station five, and acts as a monitoring station.
  • According to The Pearl's Orientation video, the staff of The Pearl live there for three weeks, and monitor the occupants of the other stations in eight hour shifts. Whenever a observation notebook is filled, they are placed in a pneumatic tube and sent off to what is only described as 'us'.
  • There is a computer identical to the one inside The Swan. However, it displays "Print Log? Y/N". Upon giving the command, the computer prints a repeating series of numeric codes, interspersed by the word "accepted", as "41602064:41 accepted 41602086:29 accepted" etc. The numbers appear to increase.

Station5Pearl messagetube

Message Tube

  • The Pearl's Orientation video says that the purpose of the video is to study the occupants of the other stations, and says that these occupants think that the work they are doing is extremely important. Perhaps the pushing of the button in the hatch is just as Jack said - nothing but an experiment to see if somebody would do it?
  • Also, the orientation video never makes it perfectly clear where the completed notebooks go once they enter the suction tube. Perhaps The Pearl is just an experiment to see if people would fill notebooks, just like The Swan and The Button are implied to be?
  • The numbers appear to increase, suggesting that they could be time stamps. If they represent minutes and seconds, it works out to about 79 years; if they represent hours and minutes, it works out to 4745 years.
  • The numbers displayed on the log printout could possibly be the numbers being entered and confirmation of the button being pushed in The Swan.
  • The numbers are not hex coding, as that would be the digits 0-9 plus the letters A-F (and sometimes explicitly denoted with a leading "0x").
  • The numbers shown on the printout are always an eight-digit value starting with 416020nn, followed by a colon and two more digits. The "nn" values seem to gradually increase (and presumably were smaller earlier in the log), while the digits after the colon always seem to be "41", "05", "17" or "29".
  • The video footage will reveal Michael shooting Libby and Ana-Lucia.
  • The log may also reveal the discussion between Michael and "Walt".
  • The log may also reveal if "Henry Gale" was lying to Locke about not pressing the button during the Lockdown_Incident.
  • This may be where the message from "Walt" was sent from.
    • If this is indeed the case, then it may confirm the existance of hidden passages interconnecting the Hatches, as the only visible entrance to The Pearl was uncovered by Eko and Locke.
    • Then again, the others could have brought Walt in the same way Locke and Eko went in, and just closed the door & moved the plane back over it when they left.
