Name reference[]
I do like the new wording better, but one question: why did someone change my original posting of the reference of this character's name? In the edit comments, it reads: " not Dogen Kenji, Dogen Zenji or Eihei Dogen". I don't get this at all. The edit certainly doesn't reflect this thought or contradict my original wording; it only clarifies it. Further, the editor kept the wikipedia link, which is where I got the information about Dogen Kenji. I'm not trying to start an argument, just curious as to why the change when the new version doesn't disagree with the old? Michael Lucero*Talk*Contributions

In the "Dark Tower" Jake and Susannah both frequently visit a place they name "The Dogen". Did he ever met the real Jacob??[]
According to the "Sundown" episode he came to the island because of a deal he made with somebody claiming to be Jacob. After the latest episodes I have become totally doubtful about any claims made by certain characters in regard to others. Since there is no objective information if anybody other than Richard Alpert, MiB, Ilana and Hurley have come face-to-face with Jacob (and are aware of it), I've taken the liberty of readjusting Dogen's history on his main page.
As it stands, MiB has become notorious for impostering other characters, including Jacob in the cabin ("Help me"). Of course, the moment Dogen arrived on the island (did he ever meet Richard face-to-face?) he claimed that this was Jacob's will. As we had seen in 1954 when Locke (a stranger) arrived at Richard's camp, just mentioning "Jacob" was like a password and Richard didn't even bother to ask Locke for details (like a physical description of Jacob...).--SokratesOne 10:00, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
Nine Toes on Right Foot[]
Did anyone else notice that Dogen has nine toes on his right foot? You get a good look at his foot in the scene where he bends down to pick up the ankh in Hurley's guitar case. Dogen has five normal toes, plus four smallish toes on top of the regular ones. I couldn't tell if his left foot also had extra. --CaptainTex 01:36, February 5, 2010 (UTC)
If the picture of him picking the up the ankh you are speaking about is the same I am watching, it looks to me more about his toes being dirty which kind creates the illusion of him having smaller toes over his regular ones... Can you post a picture of what you saw? I am making my judgment over the following

If its of any help, I'm part Asian, and my toes do that when I am digging-into/gripping the ground. The joint/knuckle can bend both ways on the four smaller toes (excluding the big toe). Knowing my own feet, his feet look completely natural to me - albeit dirty. I've also seen this frequently in practitioners of martial arts. --ME2 07:47, February 9, 2010 (UTC)

last point of "unanswered questions" is "What does Dogen say when he speaks Japanese and Lennon does not translate?" - i think this is useless, since there is at least one mother tonguer who can translate for us. @Quant18: if it hasnt been done already, how about an extra paragraph with the translation of Dogen´s japanese lines, opposing Lennon´s translations? Samurai[]

This is strange but the Dogen story about driving drunk while his son was in the car is similar to a real life story that Naveen Andrews shared in an interview in the UK The story is at 00:02:07.
I don't think it has any connection to the Lost mythology but I thought it was something worth sharing.
Hidden scroll with hireoglyphics in Dogen's costume[]
The person who won Dogen's costume at the Lost auction found that it included a necklace, which contained a small scroll with hieroglyphics on it. I believe this could be relevant to put in the article, and maybe someone can also decipher its meaning. Here is a picture of the scroll:

I think it would be worth noting in the trivia, but since it was never featured in the show we can't include it as canon, even though it was in the costume. It was probably created as a little added extra and never intended to be featured on screen, or whatever purpose they intended it to have didn't make the final cut of the episodes aired. Only one who keep the Man in Black outside the Temple[]
Lennon says that Dogen was the only one who could keep the Man in Black outside the Temple. Why? I mean, ashes were a protection against the Man in Black, and there were ashes around the Temple (we see it when MiB tells Claire to enter the Temple). So let's imagine that Claire or Sayid, following MiB's orders, took off some part of the ashes so the Monster would be able to enter. So if there were no ashes somewhere (the only way the Monster could cross it), why was Dogen the only one who could keep MiB outside? I think that maybe it has something to be with the fact that MAYBE Dogen was a candidate, as it says on the article about candidates that Dogen could be one of the two Japanese surnames on the list. What would Jacob making the deal suggest Dogen was a candidate? Jacob made no such deal with any of the known candidates.

So we agree that Dogen wasn't a candidate. But it isn't true that MiB couldn't kill himself Dogen, because in an episode (i don't remember which exactly, maybe Sundown), when Claire or Sayid enter the Temple to deliver a message from MiB for the first time, Dogen says that if he goes out, MiB will kill him. So that means that, according to Dogen, MiB could kill him. But MiB couldn't kill him while he was on the Temple, because of the ash. Balk, you said that one power of the Temple master was to keep MiB out with ash. So you mean that Dogen was the only one who could use the ash for keep out MiB? Why only him? We all see other people from the Temple making ash circles when Hurley told them that Jacob is dead.
I think that the Temple was an important place that it wasn't protected with ash only. Dogen, as the Temple master, was another way to protect the Temple, and MiB couldn't kill him while he (Dogen) was inside the Temple, because he (MiB) couldn't enter. So when someone (Sayid or Claire) made a hole in the ash circle, MiB sent Sayid to kill Dogen, so the other protection (along with the ash) would be eliminated and he could get in.
