Things we know about "The Others"

The others don't leave tracks
Ethan Rom kidnapped Claire and Charlie
Charlie was found hanging from a tree by Jack and Kate. We assume that this is the work of "the others". After Jack and Kate cut his body from the tree, Jack resuscitated him. Charlie also stated he had no memory of the events that occurred during the time he was with Ethan.
Claire escaped from Ethan/"the others" and returned to the camp. She had amnesia that went all the way back to before the plane crash.
Rousseau claims that they captured her child, Alex.
They are "like animals" according to Ana-Lucia
They seem to be responsible for the backwards whispering that happens in the jungle.
They have a list of specific surivors they want. Only "good" people are on the list.

Gerald and Karen DeGroot (from the Orientation Film) may be part of The Others, or perhaps are just another group of people on or near the island. There is strong indication (see picture) that they are the ones who took Walt.
Alex is one of the Others. In S02E05, we see one of them carrying a teddy bear. The teddy bear seems to be from one of the two children from the tail end of the plane. S02E07.
Ethan Rom was one of the Others. The name Ethan Rom is also an anagram for " Other Man".
Goodwin was one of the Others. He said: Only the good and strong ones were taken. Ana Lucia killed Goodwin.
Claire has been brainwashed by the Others and is secretly passing information about the castaways to them.
The Others are connected to the (as yet unseen) Dharma Initiative station studying "utopian social _____" (listed in the Orientation Film as one of the six focii of the Initiative).
The hatch was created to keep people from becoming "The Others"
Members: In episode 05 season 02 when "The Others" are passing by Mr. Eko and Jin, you can count 11 people and one of them is a child.
There are two groups of "others". Two rival factions, one better Dressed, ala Ethan and Goodwin, the other wearing pale clothing and no shoes, ala the ones that attacked the talies.
